Documentary Heritage & Preservation Services for NY funds CCHS Preservation Survey

The Chenango County Historical Society (CCHS) has been selected to receive a Preservation Survey through the Documentary Heritage and Preservation Services for NY (DHPSNY) Planning & Assessment Services. The Preservation Survey will focus on preventive care and mitigating deterioration and damage by analyzing the physical environment of the museum’s archival spaces.

Since 1939, CCHS has collected a range of objects related to regional history. Museum collections are cultural resources which allow CCHS to share the stories of local people, places, activities, and events.

“We are so grateful to DHPSNY for this amazing opportunity,” said Jessica Moquin, CCHS executive director. “Our Preservation Survey will help the museum be better stewards of the archival materials and documents that the community has entrusted us with.”

“It is evident that CCHS’s energetic and dedicated staff are strongly committed to caring for their collections and engaging with their community through vibrant programming,” said Amanda Murray, DHPSNY program manager. “We look forward to working alongside staff to help set future preservation goals and support CCHS as they work to achieve those aims.”

First established in 1939, CCHS is the area’s premier heritage museum dedicated to celebrating local culture—its unique traditions and noteworthy stories. Programs are made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. CCHS is also a proud partner of Bloomberg Connects, an app that allows visitors to enhance their exhibit experience through audio clips, videos, and more. Download this free digital museum guide via the Apple Store or Google Play, and visit ChenangoHistorical.org for more details about this and other museum programs.

DHPSNY is a collaboration between two long-running New York programs dedicated to service and support for archival and library research collections throughout the state: the New York State Archives Documentary Heritage Program and the New York State Library Conservation/Preservation Program. DHPSNY is supported by the New York State Archives, New York State Library, Conservation Center for Art & Historic Artifacts, and the New York State Education Department. DHPSNY’s Strategic Planning Assistance curriculum was developed in collaboration with the New York Council of Nonprofits.
