The B.F. Gladding Company
The story begins in 1666 with the arrival of Mr. John Gladding the first at the Plymouth Colony. Seven generations later his namesake, John Gladding found his way to the South Otselic Valley of New York State, where he founded the Gladding family business, B.F. Gladding Company. Over a period of 100 plus years it became the largest fishing line manufacture in the world. By 1966 the small village of South Otselic, was deemed "The Fishing Line Capitol of the World" by then New York State Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller.
This is their story, full of twists and turns that will surprise the reader. There are business successes, heartbreak, romance, world and local history, personal tragedy and triumph over adversity. It includes the company being recognized as one of the largest sporting and recreational goods manufacturer in the 70's and 80's.
